Improve Your Odds with the Most
Advanced Treatments
Medical Oncology
Medical oncology is a service provided by a
team that consists of oncologists and oncology nurses.
At CCNC, our teams are highly experienced, knowledgeable
and genuinely empathetic. Our doctors, specifically,
have over 200 years of combined experience. They
pride themselves on staying up-to-date on the most
advanced treatments and clinical trials, and then
suggesting the most appropriate. Another important
role they fulfill is providing education to the patients
and their families about various forms of cancer
and the temporary side effects of treatment.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a systematic treatment for cancer.
The side effects can vary depending on the drug regimen
received. Throughout treatments, patients are closely
monitored by our healthcare team. In other words,
we're there with you every step of the way, especially
our nursing team. Overall, they're an excellent resource
for cancer care information.
Radiation Oncology
Radiation oncology is our newest onsite service, providing our patients with greater convience and comfort. Our entire radiation oncology team is board certified/eligible and committed to providing the highest quality cancer care. Our physicians work closely with our radiation physicist and dosimetrist to customize each treatment plan. Our radiation therapists deliver the planned course of radiation treatments with pinpoint accuracy. Our nurses support all aspects of a patient’s treatment, including patient education and the coordination of care with other members of your cancer care team.
Our commitment to providing the best care possible means that our practice is equipped with the best technology available. Our computerized tomography (CT) scanner scans the patient’s body, localizes the center of the tumor and begins to formulate the optimal plan for each patient. Then, our state-of-the-art Pinnacle system determines the best way to wrap the radiation dose around the tumor. Finally, treatment is delivered on a Varian dual-energy linear accelerator. This machine produces high energy X-rays that focus on a patient’s tumor and kill the cancerous cells; it is capable of delivering the most accurate form of radiation therapy, called intensity-modulated radiation therapy, or IMRT).
Head and Neck Surgery
Surgery plays an essential role in the treatment and cure of cancers of the head and neck. The goal of surgery is two-fold: to remove the tumor and to restore function. Using the newest state-of-the-art reconstructive techniques optimal functional outcomes can be achieved. When surgery is combined with radiation and chemotherapy the best possible cure rates can be achieved for patients with advanced cancers.
Diagnostic Radiology
As its name implies, diagnostic radiology uses x-rays to help diagnose disease. With our multi-slice GE Qxi CT scanner, we offer our patients the convenience of scanning for prompt and accurate diagnosis, as well as helping to assess the response of a tumor to treatment. The scanner will also be used for CT-Based Virtual Simulation. This is part of the radiation treatment planning process that will allow us to accurately verify the location and dose of radiation before the radiation treatment actually begins.
Hematology
Hematology is the study of blood and blood-forming
tissues and the study of the nature, function
and diseases of the blood and of blood-forming
organs. CCNC has several of the Triangle's most
experienced, highly regarded hematologists. They
deal with diseases such as leukemia, coagulative
disorders like hemophilia, Hodgkin's disease,
multiple myeloma, lymphoma, etc.
Clinical
Laboratory Services
Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial
role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment
of cancer - whether radiation, chemotherapy,
or both. Clinical laboratory (or medical) technologists
and technicians perform most of these tests.
At CCNC, their years of experience qualify them
as experts. When they examine and analyze blood
and other body fluids utilizing state-of-the-art
equipment, they provide us with a vast amount
of critical information. These reports enable
our CCNC physicians to prescribe the appropriate
treatments and/or preventive measures to ensure
the best therapy for you.
Advances in laboratory testing are continually
occurring, improving upon the early detection of
many types of cancer. In addition, these tests
can monitor the response of therapies given and
determine effective treatment options for you.
Pharmacy
The advantages of our on-site oncology pharmacy
include comprehensive patient education, continuity
of care, convenience and easy access to a pharmacist
specializing in cancer treatment. The services
they provide include mixing chemotherapy products
for our offices, providing take-home prescriptions
in some offices and filling research prescriptions.
Our pharmacists are specially trained to support
cancer patients being cared for by clinical practice
professionals. They also provide support to both
physicians and nurses, allowing them to perform
more complicated therapies in the outpatient setting
rather than in the hospital.
In general, on-site pharmacists result in reduced
healthcare costs, not to mention improved patient
satisfaction because of the convenience. With the
positive results due to continuous pharmacological
supervision, we believe an on-site pharmacist is
a real benefit to our patients, as it improves
our level of care.
