CANCER CENTERS OF NORTH CAROLINA
WELCOMES GIRL SCOUT DONTAION
Raleigh, North Carolina (May 9, 2007) – On Friday, May 4th Cancer Centers of North Carolina welcomed Michaela Houston, a local girl scout from Troop 822, as she made a donation to the Center.
Michaela Houston raised funds for, created, and donated an Activity Cart, nicknamed the “Smiley Cart”, for the benefit of the children of Cancer Centers of North Carolina’s patients. This project is part of Ms. Houston’s efforts to earn her Bronze Award in Girl Scouting.
Ms. Houston and her mother, Vanessa Houston, visited the physicians and staff the morning of Friday, May 4th to present the project to the Cancer Center. The Houstons toured the
Center and helped to select an appropriate location for Michaela’s project. “We are very pleased that Michaela chose our Center for her project donation. She has done a terrific job on the Smiley Cart and I know the children who accompany their parent or grandparent for a visit will appreciate it” stated Alan Kritz, M.D., Cancer Centers of North Carolina President.
As a part of her Bronze Award work, Michaela will continue to raise funds through her church to keep the Smiley Cart stocked.
The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can earn. It requires her to learn leadership and planning skills necessary to follow through on a project that makes a positive impact on her community.
