CCNC Dedicated to the Fight Fund
FAQ
What is the CCNC Dedicated to the Fight Fund?
The CCNC Dedicated to the Fight Fund at Triangle Community Foundation (TCF) is a fund set up through TCF that accepts charitable contributions made to honor anyone who has been touched by cancer. Our Fund is a growth fund, which means it is invested as part of a larger pool of funds at the Foundation, and is able to generate interest income.
The Fund will allocate dollars to nonprofit organizations whose mission aligns with the Fund’s mission, which is:
To help support individuals cover the costs associated with cancer treatment who would otherwise be unable to afford it.
What is Triangle Community Foundation?
TCF is a public foundation that manages more than 550 donor-inspired funds created by individuals, companies and groups like CCNC for the benefit of people living in Wake, Durham, Orange and Chatham counties.
How does the Fund allocate dollars?
When a person donates to the Fund, that donation is earmarked specifically to the CCNC Dedicated to the Fight Fund; all of TCF’s growth funds are then invested as a larger pool in order to maximize interest income. Grants from the Fund will be made to nonprofit organizations whose mission aligns with the Fund’s mission.
Nonprofit organizations apply to TCF for grants and go through a selection process, with review and direction by the Fund’s advisory panel. The Fund’s advisory panel is made up of a CCNC physician, CCNC staff members and a representative of TCF.
Does the Fund issue grants to individuals?
No. However, grants from our Fund are issued only to those nonprofit organizations whose mission aligns with our mission, which is to help individuals who are struggling financially due to the cost of cancer treatment.
How does a donation to the Fund help an individual who is experiencing hardship resulting from high-cost cancer treatment?
The Fund’s advisory panel will identify the qualifying nonprofit organization to receive a grant. That organization will then use the grant to help support individuals who qualify to help them cover the costs associated with cancer treatment.
What is the benefit of donating to CCNC’s Fund as opposed to directly donating to an organization like Hospice of Wake County, which also helps people with cancer?
By donating to the Fund, you can be assured that 100 percent of your contribution will go to a nonprofit organization that helps people with cancer, as opposed to other organizations whose mission may be more diverse.
Also, because the Fund is growth fund, any money you contribute will earn interest (based on market performance), thus making your contribution that much more substantial.
What types of nonprofit organizations will qualify for grants from the CCNC Fund?
Organizations such as Caring Community Foundation, which focuses on supporting people who are experiencing cancer-related hardships, is one example.
Do the nonprofit organizations that are eligible for grants from the Dedicated to the Fight Fund at TCF need to be located in a particular geographic region?
No. While TCF is set up to serve the Triangle area of North Carolina, grants may be made to any nonprofit organization nationally – even internationally. The advisory panel may recommend any nonprofit organization that qualifies.
If a person donates to the CCNC Fund, how much of it goes to pay for administrative costs?
Every penny of your donation will go to the nonprofit selected to receive a grant from the Fund. If you donate $500 to the Fund, the selected organization will receive $500.
TCF assesses the CCNC Fund an annual 1% administrative fee (with $300 minimum for the first two years and $500 after that), but this does not impact the amount a donor contributes.
How does the Fund differ from a hospital foundation?
Hospital foundations are set up to support a variety of initiatives, mirroring the hospital itself, which treats a variety of illnesses and conditions. Just as CCNC is focused on dedicated cancer treatment, CCNC’s Fund is focused solely on helping individuals who are battling cancer. 100 percent of the donor’s money will go to a nonprofit organization whose mission is focused on assisting people with problems resulting from cancer treatment.
